Take me to the river… Sunday River is a picturesque, purpose-built
ski resort in Maine, located a mere 10 mins drive from the quaint New England
town of Bethel. Sunday River is a good choice for schools because of its
excellent progression, modern lifts, unbelievable snowmaking and extensive,
easy slopes. The accommodation works well for schools and is very conveniently
located.
128 trails cover 8 inter-connected mountains so there’s plenty of interest
for skiers and riders of most standards, but the distinguishing feature
of Sunday River is the excellent progression and miles of fairly easy slopes.
Standards from beginner to enthusiastic intermediate are happiest here,
but there are some double diamond runs.
Most American resorts have a claim to fame, and Sunday River’s is “the
most dependable snow in New England”. Visitors are proudly shown the state
of the art snowmaking, which is switched on all the time. Whenever the
conditions are right, Sunday River makes snow, and they claim you’ll have
a hard time telling the difference between the man-made stuff and Mother
Nature's.
The beginners ski area starts at the South Ridge Base Lodge, where the
runs are confidence-inspiring, wide and gentle. Good progression is a feature
of Sunday River, and precocious beginners will soon be enjoying a lot more
challenge on rolling blues and through pretty glades. Intermediates have
a good range of reds, and the powerful lift system makes the most of all
8 peaks. Advanced skiers head for the big bumps on Barker Mountain or the
testing glade skiing on Aurora, Oz and in Jordan Bowl.
There is a good choice of accommodation, from the luxury of the Grand
Summit Hotels to the more basic style of the Snow Capacity
Ski Dormitory. Whichever
you choose, you can be assured that the standards will be outstanding,
and the location and accessibility to the slopes will be unbeatable. You
will never have more than a few minutes walk to the slopes and there is
a free on-mountain shuttle bus as well.
The après ski fun features a whole host of activities for schools and we recommend
that your activity programme is organised and booked in advance with us.
We will ensure you get the activities you want on the nights you want. A price list is available and we can help
you organise your programme in conjunction with the Sunday River Team.
